SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

SEAZSC Announces Scholarships

The Southeastern Arizona Sportsmen’s Club announced that the success from recent Big Buck Contest annual fundraisers, which are strongly supported by local business sponsors, will allow for continuation of the scholarship program for 2017-2018. Last year the SEAZSC granted $3,500 in scholarship funds to 4 deserving local students. The goal of the Sportsmen’s Club is to promote continuing education for local students in Southeastern Arizona pursuing college degrees primarily in outdoor related fields. Scholarships will be awarded in two categories: to the most qualified “graduating senior” applicants from any of our local high schools; and to the most qualified “continuing college level studies” applicants beyond their freshman year in an outdoor related field.

Students wishing to apply for these scholarships should visit their high school counselors for applications and more information. Interested students should be a graduating senior from one of the local high schools or a returning college level student. Applicants MUST also be members of the Southeastern Arizona Sportsmen's Club. They must maintain a 3.0 GPA (B-) or above to maintain eligibility. Applicants must submit a 500 word or less essay using the following topic.

In light of recent school shootings and threats, gun control is being strongly touted by a variety of groups. As an outdoor enthusiast and hunter, what argument can you give to uphold our second amendment rights, without putting other groups and their interests down? Cite evidence from research studies about proper gun safety, training, use and other ways outdoor enthusiasts, conservationists, and hunters promote gun safety, etc. This must also work in conjunction with fostering the conservation of wildlife and the environment."

Additional scholarship information can also be found on the this website, the club Facebook page, or by contacting a SEAZSC Scholarship Committee member. The deadline to qualify for either of the two types of scholarships is Thursday April 12, 2018.

The Southeastern Arizona Sportsmen’s Club organization was created in 2003 and currently has a membership of approximately 200 family members. The focus of SEAZSC is to improve wildlife habitat, and promote outdoor educational programs for our youth and families. The organization helps to enrich our youth’s lives by teaching life skills, citizenship, and preserving our wildlife heritage.

Application deadline is Thursday April 12th, 2018.
